Something about Knit....
There's just something about this image of one of my knit samples that's really interesting. It was actually one of my first viscose samples and clearly didn't work out that well, but when I scanned it in to the computer it completely changed the colour (from emerald green to this) and I think theres just something about it...can't put my finger on it. I will be posting a few images of my final work when I get a chance, really mad right now, so many deadlines!

Architecture in Fashion - Inspirations
Continuing on with my current project, looking at architecture and how it can relate to fashion, I have chosen a few favourite images that sort of sum-up the project for me and what I want to achieve. I still have a lot of work to do and a lot more drawings and sampling to work on but I'll keep updated on here to show my progress throughout this project.
I'll start off with inspirational architectural imagery...

Alice Palmer
Recently a friend told me about the young knitwear designer Alice Palmer. I hadn't heard of her until today - (I must have been hiding under a rock to miss this!) - and I have to say her work is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Such a sculptured and modern take on knitwear - something I have never seen before - and I actually can't get enough of it!
I have been working on my knitwear samples over the last few days and a few of the techniques really relate to her aw10 collection. I was gonna show a few of my favourite images but I couldn't choose between them...

Love the silhouette and the symmetry. |
I have been working on this technique over the last couple of days and it's really not as easy as it looks...trust me! |

Architecture in Fashion
I have started a new project this week and again I have to write my own brief and show how I would market this to the industry and what sort of category it would be in. I have chosen to look at architecture and how it is so closely related to fashion. I will be working in knit and in digital print for this project. To start off I have looked at designers work that could relate to architecture and how/why it does so. The main designer that kept popping up was Hussein Chalayan who has used many different shapes and silhouettes in his garments to emphasise the relevance of architecture and basically show fashion as more of an art form. For the digital print side of this, I have started looking at really detailed blueprints and I have done some quick study drawings of modern buildings around me. Here is some of my inspiration right now:

Authorship Project
So basically for this project we had to write our own brief and work towards anything we chose. I started looking at my previous trend book for inspiration as it was still fresh in my head and I wanted to take a few of my images further. I ended up creating a small installation (with a basic garment involved). So here are a few images of my journey through this project starting off with inspiration and research....
Scanned images of fabric from a New York based Artist. |
I love this! The way the fabric creates an almost different colour because of the simple manipulation. |
An image of an area covered with ice - I found the colours in this image very influential. Dark and gloomy... |
Everything you need in life...nearly! |

Some cushion stuffing in a sheer fabric. I spent about 2 hours trying to capture this while it was falling! |
I then created the garment by hand-sewing all the balloons on to a separate cotton base which was then stitched on to the sheer fabric at the neckline. |
I took some of my photos and cut them up in to squared and hung them all around my garment to give the impression of it being even more 3-D than it already was. |
This was my final outcome. If I was allowed to use a little bit more space I think I would have expanded the garment and also possibly used different sizes/more images to give a more dramatic effect. |
